Client

Iceline Hosting, a global game hosting provider, has built a reputation for delivering high-performance, reliable services to gaming communities worldwide. Committed to enhancing user experience and ensuring 24/7 uptime, a must in an industry where downtime stands out, Iceline turned to OVHcloud for its robust infrastructure and exceptional performance.

After four years of development, Iceline launched a custom control panel that simplifies server management and boosts user experience. This platform leverages OVHcloud’s infrastructure to meet the changing needs of modern gaming.

Challenges

Before partnering with OVHcloud, Iceline faced significant hurdles tied to its previous infrastructure. Scalability was a persistent issue. Game popularity ebbs and flows unpredictably, and provisioning new servers to meet sudden demand was a slow, manual ordeal that delayed customer access. Server reliability was another challenge, as outages disrupted gameplay, undermining trust in a sector where constant uptime is non-negotiable.

The technical complexity of older interfaces overwhelmed new users, making server setup daunting without prior know-how. Worse, frequent DDoS attacks flooded servers, dodging standard defenses, highlighting the need for innovation.

Solutions

OVHcloud’s data center and network enable Iceline to scale its operations more effectively. The public cloud provides scalable instances, allowing Iceline to boost capacity without downtime, a critical feature for supporting hundreds of thousands of users during peak periods. Private networking links servers for seamless failover, ensuring that if one went offline, game servers could shift to another without disruption. OVHcloud’s high-performance servers underpinned Iceline’s shift from Docker to Nomad-based deployment. The system delivers full server strength for better gameplay, as Liam Temple, Iceline’s company director, describes it: “You’re getting the whole house of performance, not just a room.”

Iceline also accesses on-demand server provisioning and the support of a dedicated account manager who promptly resolves queries in just minutes. While OVHcloud’s built-in DDoS protection handled initial threats, its private networking enabled Iceline’s custom whitelist system, adding a game-specific layer to block non-player traffic. These solutions are integrated seamlessly into Iceline’s platform, creating a strong, smooth-running system that elevates service quality.

Results

Performance has soared as OVHcloud’s servers have maximized Nomad’s capabilities, delivering a superior gaming experience compared to legacy virtualized setups. Since its soft launch, the control panel has experienced zero outages, thanks to auto-correcting code that keeps features functional despite updates or bugs, a stark contrast to outdated competitors. Scalability became effortless, with the public cloud maintaining service quality during demand surges without impacting users or staff. User experience improved dramatically through a streamlined interface, user-friendly setup, simplified mod integration, and customizable branding, making server creation accessible to novices. Additionally, Iceline’s whitelist-based DDoS protection was tested on high-attack targets like FiveM, a multiplayer modification framework for Grand Theft Auto, and effectively eliminated disruptions. These outcomes have enhanced Iceline’s value proposition.

“OVHcloud empowers us with performance and reliability,” said Temple. “Their support is unmatched—issues are resolved in minutes. For any infrastructure that needs to stay online, OVHcloud is the provider to use.” As Iceline scales, OVHcloud remains its cornerstone, promising a future of resilience and innovation in the gaming ecosystem.

Future Plans

Iceline aims to expand its whitelist-based DDoS protection across all servers and pitch it to game developers, using OVHcloud’s private networking for implementation. With latency being a critical factor in gaming, Iceline is exploring OVHcloud’s expanding Local Zones to optimize performance through a hybrid bare-metal and virtual machine approach.

As Iceline scales, OVHcloud will fuel a future of tougher, smarter hosting that keeps gamers connected and creators thriving.
