OVHcloud US Startup Program Member THI.AI Utilizes AI Technology on Public Cloud to Provide No-Cost, Open-Source Medical Educational Information to Doctors and Students

The Background:

The Human Insight project (THI.AI) is an innovative company in the OVHcloud US Startup Program utilizing public cloud services to provide no-cost, AI-sourced medical information to physicians and medical students around the world. Founded by Masih Hedayati and Pezhman Mazaheri, THI.AI is leveraging AI to revolutionize and modernize healthcare by addressing health disparities, enhancing patient outcomes, and streamlining workflows. Built on OVHcloud US public cloud architecture, the project contains several AI tools to help medical students, regardless of socioeconomic status, find key medical information and resources from med school to practicing physicians.

THI.AI gives physicians access to valuable medical information from verified global sources which include peer-reviewed medical journals. The platform is refining verified medical data and enhancing natural language processing models to create a simplified medical resource platform for medical education as well as the diagnosis and treatment of different medical conditions. The THI.AI project drew inspiration from the Human Genome Project, which over the span of 13 years, brought together an international community of researchers to map the entire human genome, also known as the human DNA sequence.

The Challenge:

When he started this project, Masih set out to address the challenges encountered by med students and doctors in low-income communities across the world when trying to gain access to verified medical data and information. “Our story begins not with technology or innovation, but with a stark realization of inequality. In our journey through medical education, we encountered a landscape where talent and ambition were often overshadowed by a lack of accessible resources. We saw peers with immense potential hindered not by their capabilities but by barriers that should not exist,” said Masih.

Understanding what they wanted to accomplish, the team identified the biggest technological challenge -- access to massive amounts of compute power. Masih built an early version of his platform by developing an API that leveraged ChatGPT AI technology, however, after some additional development, he and Pezhman figured out that with the right amount of cloud-based computing power, they could develop their own platform with custom features that would help the kind of physicians and students who needed it the most.

The Solution:

Building their prototype, Masih and Pezhman quickly realized this project requires three critical components – data, scientists to build the models, and massive amounts of computing power. Luckily, they both already had experience working with OVHcloud in France for another company developing object recognition technologies, and based on that experience, they decided to reach out to OVHcloud US to see if they had a solution for the Human Insight Project. Once approved by the startup program lead Francois Giraud, the team was provided the public cloud resources and compute power they needed to expand the project.

“When we started this project on our own, we were processing about 800 queries a month and since partnering with OVHcloud US, we’re now processing between 9,000 and 10,000 queries per month. The compute power of OVHcloud US is allowing us to support nearly 10 times the amount of queries which is just amazing,” Masih added.

The AI technology running on OVHcloud US public cloud servers allows users to enter plain language queries to research different types of diseases and illnesses, with very different results than a typical search engine. Masih said, “A regular search might bring up a 30-minute video, but you might not have time to watch it. Our AI can ‘watch’ the video on your behalf and provide bullet points in just two paragraphs. This is what separates us from ChatGPT and all other types of platforms.”

Masih refers to his relationship with OVHcloud as a partnership in computation. “The computational demands of AI are daunting, necessitating robust infrastructural support. OVHcloud US, a global force in cloud solutions serves as the bedrock of THI.AI’s operational capabilities. The relationship is not just transactional—it's synergistic,” said Masih.

“I would absolutely recommend OVHcloud US to any startup looking for high-quality cloud services,” Masih said. “They are easy to work with, very competitively priced, and very high quality. Francois and his team went above and beyond our expectations, and they have always wanted us to succeed. They’ll do whatever it takes, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the support they are providing us and to those we serve.”
