Use Cases

Deploying Containers

Developers use block storage to store containerized applications on the cloud. Like containers, block storage is equally flexible, scalable, and efficient. With block storage, developers can migrate containers seamlessly between servers, locations, and operating environments.

Transactional workloads

With block storage, developers can set up a robust, scalable, and highly efficient transactional database. As each block is a self-contained unit, the database performs optimally, even when there is an increase in stored data. Furthermore, individual storage blocks can be hosted on different servers, preventing access bottlenecks.

Migrate your data from other cloud providers

Migrate your data from any cloud provider to OVHcloud's S3™ Compatible Solution, offering highly available storage at a great price. Incoming traffic to the S3™ Compatible Solution is free and outgoing traffic is charged at $0.011/GB.

Backup your bare metal servers

Develop AI or machine learning applications and process high-power computing workloads using our Object Storage solution. You can use it to store high volumes of data, while enjoying high bandwidth and low storage costs.

FAQ

How to select the right storage for the right purpose?

There are several types of cloud storage, designed for a wide range of purposes:

- With block storage, you get more storage capacity for your Public Cloud instances by creating redundant storage volumes. This type of storage also offers high speed as needed to deliver high read-write performance.

- Object storage is designed to store static files in a scalable, unlimited space, and often serves as a low-cost, long-term archive of your data assets. Object storage can be used for numerous applications, including backing up data, publishing static web content, or storing IoT workloads sensor data. Other applications include permanent storage for stateless computing, and training and production data for machine learning.

How does the storage system work?

Block storage is built using enterprise SSD storage offered by brands such as Intel or Samsung. Overall data is replicated to at least three independently operating storage servers.

Our storage works separately from server host systems, which better ensures that highly available data storage is also in place if a server host system fails.

Our flexible S3™ compatible Object Otorage solution allows you to store and retrieve any amount of data and is designed to be accessed from anywhere, including websites, mobile applications, or IoT devices. Its easy-to-use security features provide stability and access control.

What are the advantages of cloud block storage?

Cloud block storage is ideal for storing large volumes of data. By adding disks, you can get more hosting capacity, depending on your needs. What’s more, the speed and redundancy of this system make it easier to manipulate data. Separate block storage also makes it easy to configure and modify data while relying on high availability to help ensure optimal user experience. Thanks to the redundancy of our Block Storage system, you can benefit from the additional resilience of cloud block storage. This better ensures that your data is safe if one of the disks or a machine fails.

What are the advantages of cloud object storage?

Object storage offers several advantages, the main one being reduced costs even as your data grows. Your data is stored on one or more servers sized to accommodate terabytes or even petabytes of data while optimizing operational costs. The environment is also designed to adapt to changing needs, without needing to overhaul the infrastructure or how it runs.
