OVHcloud expands its global footprint to 44 data centers with the opening of its first facility in Italy
Reston, Virginia and Washington, D.C. – (May 21, 2025) - OVHcloud, a global player and European cloud leader, today announced an important step in its global expansion with the opening of a new data center in the Milan region. This investment strengthens OVHcloud’s presence in Southern Europe and illustrates the OVHcloud’s continued international growth.
“We are very pleased to announce the opening of our 44th data center in the world and our first in Italy,” said Benjamin Revcolevschi, CEO of OVHcloud.“This extension of our cloud infrastructure is part of a broader strategy for deployment in Europe and internationally.”
First data center in Italy and first 3A-Z region outside of France
With 26 data centers throughout Europe, this new data center further supports OVHcloud’s foothold in the region. This new location is a key part of OVHcloud’s forthcoming Availability Zone (3-AZ) in the Lombardy region, which will offer secure cloud services replicated across three separate locations with independent networks.
OVHcloud’s Availability Zones are designed for applications that need high availability and resilience, using data centers with separate power supplies and network connections. This offering has been specifically designed for users in highly regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare and public administration.
“The opening of our first data center in Italy represents more than just geographic expansion—it reflects OVHcloud’s commitment to delivering globally consistent, high-performance, and sovereign cloud infrastructure,” said Jeffrey Gregor, General Manager for OVHcloud US. “ For our U.S. customers with operations in Europe or regulatory requirements around data residency, this new Milan facility and forthcoming 3-AZ region offer the resilience, compliance, and trusted infrastructure they need to scale confidently across borders.”
Accelerating global expansion
The opening of the new data center in Italy completes a series of recent international deployments including dedicated facilities in Mumbai, Toronto and Sydney.
Furthermore, in 2024, OVHcloud began deploying Local Zones on a global scale, offering public cloud environments as close as possible to customers, providing greater agility and flexibility. With 28 Local Zones now open around the world, OVHcloud has invested €1 billion in products and infrastructure since its initial public offering in 2021. This has notably resulted in the opening of ten additional data centers since 2021, designed to meet the complex needs of customers internationally while also offering unparalleled data residency.
OVHcloud will continue to open additional Local Zones and 3-AZ regions around the world, including presence in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. In 2026, OVHcloud will open new Local Zones in cities including Bogota, Tallinn and Johannesburg.
“Our ambition is to support the digital transformation of public and private organizations, in Europe and around the world, by providing them with a secure, sustainable sovereign cloud that is compliant with local regulations,” concluded Revcolevschi.
