OVHcloud US Partners with Girls Who Code to Close the Gender Gap in Technology

RESTON, VA - March 12 - 2018 — OVHcloud, a global hyper-scale cloud provider, today announced its support of Girls Who Code through a $50,000 donation. The funds will be used to support the non-profit by hosting five field trips in the Washington, D.C., and Dallas, TX areas. Additionally, the investment supports the Girls Who Code 2018 Summer Immersion Program, a free, seven-week summer program for tenth-grade and eleventh-grade girls to learn to code and gain exposure to jobs in the technology workforce.

Research from Accenture  and Girls Who Code found that the number of women in the computing workforce is expected to decline from 24 percent today to 22 percent by 2025. To combat this decline, Girls Who Code is teaching girls to code in communities across the United States. To date, the organization has reached over 50,000 girls with its educational programs.

“I started to code in sixth grade and it had a huge impact on shaping the rest of my life. As a father and a technology leader, I recognize both a personal and professional obligation to encourage girls to explore STEM education and aspire to roles in technology and beyond,” said Russell P. Reeder, CEO and President of OVHcloud US. “We are excited to give back to the tech community by engaging youth in technology and continuing to support this critical development area with Girls Who Code.”

Girls Who Code will host Summer Immersion Programs in 17 cities across the United States, with OVHcloud-sponsored field trips taking place near local OVHcloud US offices in the Washington, D.C., and Dallas, TX areas. Girls Who Code also provides after-school Clubs for girls to explore coding, and a two-week, specialized summer course for sixth-grade to twelfth-grade girls on a range of topics.

“We need more women in technical roles at all companies and this donation from OVHcloud US will help aspiring technologists prepare for their future STEM careers,” said Reshma Saujani, Founder and CEO of Girls Who Code.  “These programs provide the necessary experience, exposure, and training to make girls feel more empowered to pursue educations, and eventually careers, in computer science.”
