Game Dedicated servers — Bare Metal for multiplayer game hosting

Faster CPUs for smoother gameplay - AMD Ryzen 9800X 3D/9950X 3D

Game servers equipped with AMD Ryzen 9800X 3D and 9950X 3D processors offer high clock frequencies paired with an expanded L3 3D V-Cache. The high frequencies provide strong single-core performance, while the large L3 cache minimizes memory latency by keeping critical datasets close to the CPU cores. This combination is ideal for game hosting servers and latency-sensitive workloads, delivering faster data access, improved performance stability, and a smoother gaming experience.

Game Servers: Technical FAQ
What is an OVHcloud Game dedicated server?
An OVHcloud Game dedicated server is a single-tenant bare metal server purpose-built for hosting multiplayer game instances, game communities, and streaming workloads. The current Game-1 and Game-2 lineup uses AMD Ryzen 9800X3D or 9950X3D processors with 3D V-Cache, 64–256 GB of DDR5 ECC On-Die memory, NVMe SSD storage in soft RAID, 1 Gbps public bandwidth, water cooling, and Game DDoS Protection included.
What is the difference between Game-1 and Game-2?
Game-1 uses an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (8 cores / 16 threads, 4.7–5.2 GHz boost) and is sized for smaller communities or single popular game instances. Game-2 uses an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (16 cores / 32 threads, 4.3–5.7 GHz boost) and is sized for higher player counts, multiple concurrent game instances, or workloads that benefit from more parallel cores. Both ship with 64–256 GB DDR5, 2 × 960 GB NVMe SSD, and 1 Gbps public bandwidth.
Why does OVHcloud use AMD Ryzen X3D processors for game servers?
The Ryzen 9800X3D and 9950X3D include AMD's 3D V-Cache, which stacks additional L3 cache directly onto the CPU die. Game server workloads are typically single-thread sensitive and cache-bound, so the extra L3 cache reduces tick latency and improves performance for titles like Minecraft, Counter-Strike 2, Rust, and Valheim compared to standard server CPUs at similar clock speeds.
Which games can I host on an OVHcloud Game server?
OVHcloud Game servers support any game with a Linux® or Windows®-compatible dedicated server binary, including Minecraft® (Java® and Bedrock), Counter-Strike 2, Rust, ARK: Survival Ascended, Valheim, Palworld, 7 Days to Die®, Garry's Mod, Team Fortress 2, Project Zomboid, and Satisfactory. The server is bare metal, so you control the OS, ports, mods, and game version.
Linux® is a registered trademark of Linus Torvalds. Java® is a registered trademark of Oracle America, Inc. Windows® and Minecraft® are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. 7 Days to Die® is a registered trademark of The Fun Pimps Entertainment LLC.
Where are OVHcloud Game servers available?
Game dedicated servers are available across three regions: North America (Hillsboro, Oregon and Vint Hill, Virginia in the US; Beauharnois and Toronto in Canada), Europe (Gravelines, Paris, Roubaix, and Strasbourg in France; Frankfurt; Warsaw; London), and Asia-Pacific (Sydney, Mumbai, Singapore). For US players, Hillsboro and Vint Hill provide the lowest latency.
What is Game DDoS Protection and is it included?
Game DDoS Protection is included at no extra cost on every Game dedicated server. It is a game-aware mitigation layer that filters volumetric and protocol attacks before they reach the server, with profiles tuned for specific game protocols rather than generic web traffic. It can be configured directly from the OVHcloud Control Panel and OVHcloud continually adds new game profiles to the protection.
What is the SLA on OVHcloud Game servers?
OVHcloud Game servers carry a 99.95% service level agreement, covering hardware availability and network connectivity. The SLA applies per server and is documented as part of OVHcloud's Terms of Service.
Is a Game dedicated server better than a VPS for hosting a game?
A dedicated Game server is the better choice when you need consistent tick rates, predictable latency, more than ~30–50 concurrent players, or the ability to host multiple game instances on one machine. A VPS shares physical hardware with other tenants, so a "noisy neighbor" can affect game tick performance during peak hours. A dedicated Game server gives you the entire CPU, full RAM, and dedicated NVMe I/O.
Can I host multiple game servers on one machine?
Yes. Because Game servers are bare metal with up to 256 GB of RAM and 16 cores on Game-2, operators commonly run multiple game instances on a single machine, isolated by port, container, or virtualization (Proxmox VE and Microsoft Hyper-V Server are available as optional installs).
