Disaster Recovery for Nutanix MST
Eliminate always-on disaster recovery infrastructure costs with Nutanix MST on OVHcloud Object Storage
Reduce disaster recovery (DR) costs and simplify operations by replicating snapshots directly to S3-compatible* OVHcloud Object Storage and recovering on demand, without egress fees or always-on infrastructure.
Why choose OVHcloud Object Storage for Nutanix MST
Keep disaster recovery costs predictable
Maintain full cost visibility across testing and recovery by avoiding egress, ingress, and API fees, so your DR strategy stays consistent and financially controlled.
Run disaster recovery without a secondary site
Reduce infrastructure overhead by eliminating always-on DR environments with Zero Compute DR. Deploy compute only when needed, while still maintaining reliable recovery capabilities.
Optimize storage spend effortlessly
Align storage to your recovery needs by choosing Standard or Infrequent Access, combining transparent pricing, high durability, and a 99.99% SLA for protection.
Stay compliant with confidence
Simplify compliance and audits by controlling where your data resides, with OVHcloud Object Storage certified for ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, and 27701.
How it works
Simplify disaster recovery by extending native Nutanix snapshot replication directly to S3-compatible* OVHcloud Object Storage.
Nutanix Multicloud Snapshot Technology captures and asynchronously replicates cluster-level snapshots to OVHcloud Object Storage, removing the need for a secondary cluster.
When recovery is required, a Nutanix environment can be deployed on demand on NC2 on OVHcloud or on-premises, and workloads are restored directly from stored snapshots.
All replication policies, recovery workflows, and failover operations are managed through Prism Central, providing a consistent experience without additional tools or infrastructure.

Match storage to your disaster recovery strategy
Control storage costs and meet retention requirements by choosing Standard or Infrequent Access storage options. Optimize performance, durability, and spend based on access frequency.
*TTFB: Time To First Byte.
Choose the right disaster recovery model for your recovery and budget
Align recovery speed and cost by choosing between on-demand or always-ready infrastructure, depending on your RTO requirements and operational priorities.
Zero Compute Disaster Recovery
Run DR without paying for idle infrastructure
Eliminate always-on DR costs by storing snapshots in OVHcloud Object Storage and deploying a recovery environment only when needed.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO): typically 4–24 hours**
Best for: Dev/test environments, archives, document management, cost-sensitive workloads.
- Avoid running a secondary cluster by storing snapshots in OVHcloud Object Storage
- Reduce costs by deploying compute only during recovery
- Recover flexibly on-premises or on NC2 on OVHcloud
- Pay primarily for storage until failover occurs (additional costs may apply during recovery)
Pilot Light Disaster Recovery
Accelerate recovery with minimal always-on infrastructure
Improve recovery times by maintaining a small active environment on NC2 on OVHcloud and scaling it during failover.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO): typically 1–4 hours**
Best for: ERP, POS systems, CRM, and business-critical applications.
- Improve recovery speed by keeping a minimal NC2 cluster always running
- Scale infrastructure on demand during failover to support full workloads
- Balance cost and performance with a smaller always-on footprint
- Recover quickly from snapshots stored in OVHcloud Object Storage
- Reduce overall DR costs compared to full standby environments
**Recovery times are indicative and provided for information purposes only. Actual recovery times may vary depending on factors such as workload size, system configuration, network conditions, and operational processes. They do not constitute a contractual commitment or guarantee.

Your questions answered
What is Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST)?
Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST) is a native Nutanix Prism Central feature that replicates snapshots directly to S3-compatible* object storage such as OVHcloud Object Storage. It eliminates the need for a permanently provisioned secondary cluster by storing snapshots in object storage and enabling recovery environments to be deployed only when needed. Workloads can then be restored on-premises or on NC2 on OVHcloud, with all operations managed through Prism Central (version 7.5.1 or later).
Which Nutanix version do I need to use this feature?
Nutanix Prism Central 7.5.1 or later, and AOS 7.5 or later on your source clusters. See the setup guide for full requirements.
Does this work with my existing on-premises Nutanix cluster, or only with NC2 on OVHcloud?
Both. MST works with any Nutanix cluster managed by Prism Central 7.5.1 or later, whether on-premises or running as NC2 on OVHcloud. NC2 on OVHcloud is used as the recovery environment during failover, not a requirement for the source cluster.
Are there egress fees when recovering data from OVHcloud Object Storage?
No. OVHcloud does not charge egress or API request fees for Object Storage. You only pay for the storage you use. Recovering 10 TB incurs $0 in egress fees. This applies to both DR testing and actual recovery events.
How is MST with OVHcloud Object Storage different from HYCU for OVHcloud?
They complement each other. MST is a native Nutanix feature for VM-level disaster recovery, with no additional software required. HYCU for OVHcloud is a purpose-built backup solution that provides application-aware backups, granular recovery, and broader platform support. Many customers use both. MST for cost-effective VM-level DR, and HYCU for application-level backup and long-term retention.
