Client:

Building the backbone for frontier innovation at scale

Founded in 2017, Alchemy® is one of the most widely used development platforms in Web3, powering 70% of decentralized applications (dApps) across blockchains such as Ethereum,® Solana®, Polygon®, and Optimism™ and underpinning over $1Tn in annual on-chain transactions. Its developer suite includes high-performance APIs, blockchain data indexing, gas sponsorship, and Cortex — Alchemy’s powerful blockchain engine — forming the core backend for platforms like OpenSea®, MetaMask®, and 0x®.

In 2024, Alchemy acquired Bware Labs, a Romania-based multichain infrastructure provider behind the Blast API. In 2025, it added DexterLab, a Solana-native data specialist. Both had already scaled their services on OVHcloud Advance Bare Metal, chosen for secure, low-latency, high-throughput blockchain infrastructure at predictable costs.

These acquisitions gave Alchemy a ready-made European footprint and a sovereign infrastructure foundation to support developers in regulated, performance-critical environments.

Challenges:

Scaling a decentralized platform globally without losing speed or trust

As Alchemy expanded its infrastructure to support a rapidly growing global customer base, the company needed to deliver the same low-latency, high-availability experience in every market — from North America and Europe to fast-growing regions in APAC.

Handling more than 10 billion API requests per day meant the platform had to operate at peak performance across a geographically distributed network, with the resilience to absorb surges in demand and maintain service levels for enterprise-grade Web3 platforms.

Alchemy had already earned the trust of financial institutions like Robinhood® and Circle® — and with that foundation in place, the business needed to keep infrastructure spend under control, onboard more high-profile customers, and give developers the tools to launch decentralized applications faster, all without sacrificing sovereignty or compliance.

"We operate in a fast-moving, global business," said Radu Enoiu, Engineering Lead at Alchemy. “Some of our customers operate in restricted markets with specific needs, and others need high-speed at hyper-scale. To deliver on that and still meet regulatory requirements, we needed a cloud partner with a truly global footprint, sovereign hosting capabilities, and the flexibility to integrate newly acquired infrastructure — without compromising on performance.”

Meeting these goals meant addressing several technical and operational challenges head-on:

Low latency at scale

Ensuring real-time responsiveness across geographically distributed blockchain networks was critical to delivering a seamless developer experience.

Reliability and high availability

As a core infrastructure provider for Web3 platforms like Polymarket® and OpenSea®, consistent uptime and service resilience were essential to maintain trust and operational continuity.

Multi-location infrastructure deployment

Serving over 100 million end users across 197 countries required a cloud provider with a global footprint, enabling decentralized, sovereign infrastructure that performs consistently across regions.

Solution:

The bare metal advantage for global blockchain services

Alchemy’s transition to OVHcloud began with the integration of Bware Labs’ infrastructure. Thanks to its prior experience operating OVHcloud Bare Metal and automated deployment pipelines, Alchemy was able to provision new servers, migrate workloads, and consolidate infrastructure at speed—with zero disruption.

To maintain hybrid operations with AWS-managed databases and caches, Alchemy deployed OVHcloud Connect paired with Console Connect, enabling secure, high-speed private peering between environments.

“OVHcloud Connect made integrating Bware Labs almost effortless. Once we nailed the proof-of-concept, adding new links was fast and repeatable — with no disruption.”

Radu Enoiu, Engineering Lead at Alchemy

Rebuilding on Bare Metal for predictable performance

  • Multi-region deployments across Europe, APAC, and the US for low-latency access and failover
  • Standardized configurations for reproducible environments
  • Full observability stack for proactive monitoring and rapid troubleshooting

Alchemy rebuilt its platform for performance, reliability, and scale, using over 2000 OVHcloud bare metal servers. They used Kubernetes to orchestrate workloads across multiple regions, ensuring consistent deployment and streamlined management. Standardized configurations and observability tools allowed teams to deploy faster and scale with confidence.

To further enhance speed and security, Alchemy introduced Istio service mesh across its environment. This brought locality-aware routing and consistent monitoring—minimizing latency while improving internal security and reliability.

“Deploying across multiple OVHcloud regions has boosted performance by up to 4x — an improvement our customers immediately noticed in the speed and smoothness of their applications.” — Akram Hassan, Head of Product at Alchemy

Alchemy built a context-aware routing engine that considers real-time latency, network type, node client, and SLA requirements for every RPC (Remote Procedure Call) request. This adaptive routing propagates changes globally in minutes and integrates directly with the company’s proxy layer for full control without redeployment.

By leveraging OVHcloud distributed data center network, Alchemy deployed critical workloads across regions — ensuring low-latency service in Europe and APAC and enabling automatic failover for business continuity.

“We improved reliability and latency across regions. That gave us the confidence to onboard major partners in Europe and APAC.” — Guillaume Poncin, CTO at Alchemy

Results:

Automation and resilience driving trusted blockchain user experiences.

Meeting latency and scale demands

OVHcloud global bare metal footprint allowed Alchemy to deploy latency-sensitive workloads closer to users and maintain peak throughput at scale.

Key outcomes:

  • Latency in some regions dropped from ~250ms to 100ms.
  • 2x–4x performance improvement reported by customers after multi-region rollout.
  • Availability consistently above 99.99% across all RPC endpoints

“For customers like Polymarket, latency improvements are a game-changer. In some regions, we’ve brought it down from around 250ms to 100ms. That boost translates directly into better performance and a smoother user experience for their end users.” — Radu, Engineering Lead, Alchemy

Speed and scale, engineered for blockchain

By running core workloads on OVHcloud Advance Bare Metal servers with NVMe disks, Alchemy gained predictable, high-throughput performance for its most demanding services. The NVMe storage’s ultra-low latency and high IOPS capacity allowed indexing nodes and API gateways to manage billions of requests with speed and reliability, even during peak demand.

Key outcomes:

  • 2.5x faster response times after migration
  • Higher IOPS and throughput directly from NVMe’s fast read/write capabilities.

Up to 50-55% savings compared to a hyperscaler.

Switching from virtualized hyperscalers to OVHcloud Advance Bare Metal transformed Alchemy’s cost structure. With 50–55% lower infrastructure spends, zero egress fees, and a more predictable pricing model, the team could reinvest directly into expanding its global footprint. More regions could be brought online without stretching the budget — all while enjoying reliable speed.

“Because of the cost savings we realized with OVHcloud, we were able to deploy our services across more regions, faster. This meant that we could accelerate our roadmap, greatly supporting our business strategy of growth in key areas.” — Akram Hassan, Head of Product at Alchemy

Key outcomes:

  • 50–55% cost savings compared to previous provider.
  • No egress fees, enabling more regional deployments for the same spend.
  • Consistent, stable performance thanks to dedicated hardware.

Future Goals:

Built on the core principles of the blockchain ethos - transparency, decentralization, and security - the relationship between Alchemy and OVHcloud is inspiring the next generation of blockchain innovation. OVHcloud brings scalable infrastructure, while Alchemy powers the onchain development layer.

As a program partner, Alchemy provides startups with access to its Web3 development platform, APIs, and technical mentoring, helping them design, test, and scale blockchain applications quickly and securely.
