OVHcloud Legal Team in front of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's Headquarters

On Friday, March 1st, the OVHcloud legal team visited the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s (NCMEC) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1984, NCMEC is a private non-profit organization whose core mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. NCMEC proactively provides assistance in the areas of professional training and resources, victim and family support; data analysis, case resources, and education across the country.

As an Electronic Service Provider (ESP) and good corporate citizen, OVHcloud is proud to be in a position to partner with NCMEC and assist them in achieving the tenets of their core mission. The visit provided the unique and rewarding opportunity for OVHcloud to sit down with members of NCMEC’s CyberTipline team to discuss their mission and processes, as well as how we can continue to be a responsible partner with NCMEC to assist in achieving their goal of combating the exploitation of children. NCMEC’s CyberTipline is a 24-hour service through which NCMEC works with ESPs and the general public to gather reports of sexual exploitation which are then provided to law enforcement to assist in their investigations. In 2018 alone, the NCMEC received more than 18.4 million reports through the CyberTipline, the vast majority from ESPs.

Before attending this in-depth session on the functionality of NCMEC’s CyberTipline, we were given a tour of the bright and modern space that NCMEC had recently moved into after outgrowing their former location on King Street. One of the highlights of the tour was seeing examples of advanced graphic imaging performed by NCMEC forensic artists to show the age progression of a missing child. This technology has led to a number of break throughs in the recovery of children who have been missing for several years and sometimes decades. The new location also houses a state-of-the-art recording studio used to create content and PSAs.

During the tour, the team also learned about the various divisions within NCMEC and the initiatives within each subunit contributing to the overall mission. Throughout the building, TVs were running a stream of videos and curriculum developed by NCMEC that focuses on online and real-world safety addressing such current topics as cyber bullying, safe internet practices, and how to avoid sexual solicitation and predators.

We believe working with our partners to have a positive impact in our community is part of our responsibility at OVHcloud. To read more about NCMEC and their mission and see how you can help, visit http://www.missingkids.com/home.
